Comments:Michael Bird died as a result of a tragic incident that could have happened to almost any of us. A one time quick draw horseplay on the flight line that forever altered the life of a real good man and ended the life of another. RIP!

Comments:MIKE BIRD WAS A FRIEND OF MINE, WE WERE BOTH GUNNERS BUT IN DIFFERENT PLATOONS. IT WAS A TRAGIC ACCIDENT THAT ENDED HIS LIFE AFTER ALL THE COMBAT HE HAD SEEN. HE WAS AN INFANTRY MAN AND WAS IN THE FIELD FOR ALMOST 9 MONTHS, WAS ALSO A SNIPER. HE USE TO GO OUT IN INDIAN COUNTRY WITH ANOTHER GUY FOR TWO WEEKS AT A TIME AND KILL THE BAD GUYES.HE SAW A LOT OF COMBAT. WE WERE SCHEDULED TO GO HOME TOGETHER ON THE SAME FLIGHT OCTOBER 23, 1967 AND I DIDN"T REALIZE UNTILL THIS DAY THAT THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN HIS 20TH BIRTHDAY.HE WAS A GOOD MAN AND A GREAT SOLDIER. I'LL NEVER FORGET HIM
